The chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, met with the newly appointed Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Georgia, Joanna Burton, at the Administration of the Government of Georgia.

Zaza Vashakmadze briefed Ms. Burton on Georgia’s state religious policy, the current religious landscape, government assistance to religious organizations, and the projects implemented by the Agency. The Chairman highlighted the ICRC’s critical role in the search for missing persons. He also drew attention to ongoing human rights violations, including violations of religious rights, in the occupied territories of Georgia.

Ms. Burton, thanked Chairman Vashakmadze for the meeting and expressed interest in future cooperation with the Agency.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Agency presented Ms. Burton with the publications of the Agency: “Functioning Cult Buildings in Georgia as of 2023”, “Functioning Cult Buildings in Tbilisi as of 2020”, “Occupied Heritage” and “Religions in Georgia”.
